Hi peeps, one of the most common questions I get from clients is how a kokedama is to be watered. Another is whether you replant the Kokedama - just to confirm that the plant can stay in the kokedama for as long as you like, it is not a temporary home for the plant ;)
As a rule of thumb most succulents won't need as much water as plants like the fern etc. So if you prefer you can water via the opening at the top of the kokedama where the plant is growing out of. This is probably the easiest and quickest way - try and take note of the weight of the kokedama before and after watering as this is a good indicator as to when it requires watering. Obviously, the heavier it is the more water it has absorbed. Remember that whatever way you choose to water your kokie there will be some leakage so be mindful of this when watering.
Another way to water your kokie is to place it in a flat dish and pour water in the dish around it so that the kokie absorbs the water. Remember to use the weight test for this method too. Once you have let it sit in the water for 10 minutes then remove and drain excess water.
Place your kokie in a well lit area out of direct sunlight, try watering every 2-3 days until you learn how often it needs to be watered by using the weight technique.
